A minor piece of slighty disturbing news is that before CM 3 was done, the Collyer brothers were nearly told by EA Sports that they could not keep working on the game. So, in principle, players pre-dated CM 2 (on release day) and CM 2 (with the addition of post-match stats in CM2) are effectively one and the same game.
So it's now you have the choice of what version of CM you like best -- though even before EA Sports has changed things for the better after their similar mistake in PM Ninety Nine. Comment focused on an early game version, which we would say is fully playable, but the learning curve is long.
But if you do choose to play the old version, now you have spent £40 on a game, this is surely quite a bit of money (though much less than a true football manager). If you're a fan of Man United, your best bet is Football Manager 2016 for Windows/Mac (I have yet to find a copy of this on a UK console -- the launch date has been pushed back yet again after the promised release date in April).
